Did you know that most normal mascara (and makeup in general) has all kinds of chemicals that can interfere with your hormones? I know, yikes!
Because of that fact (and the fact that I try not to buy anything single use plastic in general and most make-up comes in plastic) I don’t have a whole ton of make-up and what I do have right now is home-made.
I like home made because I knew exactly what’s going into it, I can avoid the plastics, and it’s super cheap. Case-in-point, this mascara cost me less than $1 to make.
So check out today’s video to learn how to make this super easy and hormone-friendly mascara for yourself:

Don’t wanna MAKE your own mascara and would rather buy stuff that won’t wreak havoc on your hormones? Try RMS beauty or 100% pure.
As always, I’d absolutely LOVE to hear from you. Have you made your own make-up? Do you have any recipes to share? If you aren’t into DIY what are your favorite hormone-friendly brands? Let me know in the comments!

This is so neat. I haven’t worn mascara in years because it makes my eyes swollen and puffy. I wonder if there is a recipe that doesn’t use coconut oil. I’m quite allergic to it.

Thanks for the comment!
I had the same problem with mascara, too. The last tube I had was supposed to be a natural-type one but it made my eyes burn.
I actually bet you could use any oil for this, since the coconut oil I used at the time was liquid I don’t think that that had much to do with the structure. THOUGH, coconut oil might also be helping to preserve it since it is a natural anti-bacterial.
Here is another recipe that is supposed to be good (no cocnut oil needed): http://www.therogueginger.com/2014/08/home-made-mascara.html

How do we feel about Tarte?? Are they enough of a lesser of evils that I don’t have to feel too bad about it? (please though?)
I used 100% pure for about a year, it smelled really wonderful and looked pretty good but it constantly left black under my eyes throughout the day, I just got over it after a while.

I haven’t looked into that one personally, but I checked it on the EWG skin deep database, which is great for figuring out what different product have in them and how they might affect you.
I’m not sure which one you use, but I found a couple listed there:
