There is nothing like a delicious milkshake to chug down (wait, you don’t chug yours?… ok…).
But the problem is when you don’t want to eat tons and tons of milkshake everyday because of the amount of refined sugar in there.
There are good things about milkshakes, too: good fats (in fact, studies have shown that women who ate full fat ice cream once a week had less fertility problems than those who didn’t.. Was it the ice cream or the happiness in eating the ice cream that made them more fertile? The world may never know), pure joy, you know the deal.
At one point in my life, I was overly concerned with everything being super duper healthy. I basically wouldn’t touch refined sugar with a ten foot pole, and I was also a vegan for seven years (which ended for health reasons). So I have this crazy repertoire of things I eat that are totally not normal, but so delicious.
Now I am more into moderation, but I still do care about my nutrition greatly (and it’s often one of the first things I’ll discuss with clients when they are trying to improve hormonal health).
Since nutrition and deliciousness are both so important, I thought I’d re-inaugurate my video making with a delicious banana milkshake recipe.
I love this milkshake because it is super simple to make, it has no sugar, it has good fats (whole milk), it’s great on hot days, it’s good for kids, and it’s so frickin’ yummy.
The milkshake is naturally sweet, but if you feel like you want it sweeter for some reason do NOT, I repeat do not, put fake sugar in it. Try maple syrup, honey, dates, coconut sugar, or rapadura.
Watch the video for the whole recipe and technique:
So easy!
Freeze bananas, blend with milk and vanilla, consume! (BTW, if you don’t drink milk for whatever reason use coconut milk).

Looks great and I absolutely love vanilla too! When I make it, I’ll add some whey protein isolate to it. The milk has a decent amount of protein but for a meal, I’d want more. Also, because it’ll be hard for me to find a reputable dairy for raw milk in my area, I’d probably be using organic lower fat milk too. Or, maybe throw in a couple raw free-range organic eggs instead of whey!

I really dislike bananas. Any suggestions?

You can do it with other fruit, but it will be more like that fruit than the banana milkshake because bananas are more neutral.
You can also try it with dates (which just taste like brown sugar, basically) but freeze cubes of coconut milk to put in, too, for the nice creamy texture. I’m thinking something like 1.5-2 cups coconut milk ice cubes (depending on how many cubes fit in the cup), 5-6 big dates (like medjool) and a cup or two of milk/coconut milk. You’d have to play with the proportions to get the right consistency since I just made the measurements up!

SO cool! Thanks for this easy tutorial Hannah!! I’m inspired to try this!

You should try it because it seriously is amazingly delicious. I’m a little obsessed.

What is your take on stevia and erythritol? You say no “fake” sugar, but that’s kinda vague. Would be curious to know about your point of view :)

I don’t know much about erythritol, so I won’t comment on that one, but stevia isn’t the worst thing you can eat. It probably still has one of the problems of zero calorie sweeteners of artificially boosting insulin levels and throwing off blood sugar, but I don’t know for sure.
I prefer if people want to use sweeteners using maple syrup, honey, or rapadura.
